BAE Barrow
Project: Process Gases and Compressed Air Installation
Client: NG Bailey
Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Sector: Defence / Nuclear
Overview:
BAE Systems required the installation of specialist gas systems to support new manufacturing facilities within its high-security Barrow-in-Furness site. The project formed part of wider works to introduce new welding and grinding booths, requiring reliable and safely managed gas supplies. The installation included new supply infrastructure and was delivered in line with strict safety, quality, and security requirements.
Scope of Work:
- Propane
- Nitrogen
- 2.5% Hydrogen/Argon Mix
- Pureshield Argon
- Oxygen
- Argoshield
- Compressed Air (connection onto existing site supply)
Project Highlights:
- Installation of new semi-automatic manifolds to provide a secure and reliable primary gas supply including the bespoke cages for them to be securely housed in
- Provision of gas outlets and connection points within each welding and grinding booth
- Manifold alarm panel that provides the users with audible and visual indication of the status for each new manifold
- Pressure testing, purging, and system integrity verification
- Works completed within a controlled defence-sector environment
- Strict adherence to safety protocols and commissioning procedures
Outcome:
The specialist gases installation was completed safely and in full compliance with all technical and security requirements. The new system, supplied from dedicated manifolds, now reliably serves the newly installed welding and grinding booths, enhancing manufacturing capability and operational efficiency. The project delivered a resilient, high-quality gas infrastructure that supports BAE Systems’ ongoing production and future operational needs.
